Larry J. Claghorn, age 73, of Madison, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at his residence. Born May 6, 1945 in Madison, Indiana, he was the son of Nathan and Bertha (Wyatt) Claghorn.

He was a 1963 graduate of Madison High School and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on May 31, 1963 in Louisville, Kentucky. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal on May 29, 1967. On January 12, 1974, he was united in marriage to Annabelle R. Burton at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Madison. He retired in 2005 from the Indiana-Kentucky Electric Corporation after many years as a Senior Control Technician.
He was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of North Madison Christian Church, the Major. Samuel Woodfill Post #9, American Legion, and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post #1969. He enjoyed golfing, watching the Cincinnati Reds and the Indianapolis Colts, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Annabelle of Madison; his son: James Claghorn and his wife, Dawn of Noblesville, Indiana; his daughters: Tina Linker and her husband, Jason of Fort Wayne, Indiana and Anita Bunch of Madison; six grandchildren: Mike Scroggins, Timmy Bunch, Ryan Scroggins and his wife, Erin, Tyler Schnebelt, Mary Claghorn, and Madison Claghorn; his great grandchildren: Ashlyn Scroggins, Camden Scroggins, Braden Scroggins, Chase Heil, and Tanner Heil; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Annamary (Dryden) Claghorn who passed away on January 24, 1971; his sons: Timothy D. Bunch who passed away on December 10, 1992 and Joey Claghorn who passed away on February 27, 2013; his granddaughter, Taylor Schnebelt who passed away on June 29, 2018; his brothers: Charles Claghorn, Bernard Claghorn, and Robert "Bob" Claghorn; his sister: Edith Steppe; and his nephew, Kevin Claghorn.
Pastor Brye Welty will conduct graveside services at 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Dupont Cemetery, with interment to follow.
Friends and family may call at the Lytle Welty Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, 117 Holt Drive, Madison’s Hilltop from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, January 7, 2019.
Military graveside services will be conducted by the Honor Guard from the United States Marine Corps and the Honor Guard from Major Samuel Woodfill Post #9, American Legion.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to North Madison Christian Church. Contributions may be made at any of the Lytle Welty Funeral Homes & Cremation Service locations.
