Castel "Robert" Black died March 8, 2019, age 90, at Jewel Place in Madison. A native of Kent, Robert was born January 8, 1929, the youngest child of Castel and Verna Black. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Hanover High School in 1947, where he lettered in basketball. In 1950 he married high school sweetheart Lillian Warman of Hanover, the love of his life and wife for 65 years.

Robert served in the United States Air Force from 1950-1954, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant and deploying to Japan during the Korean War. Robert and Lillian settled in Greenwood and lived there for 36 years, raising their daughter Kathy. Robert made his living selling cars, first at Kelly Chevrolet and later as an independent car dealer. Robert was a member of Greenwood Masonic Lodge No. 514, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, Murat Shrine, and Greenwood Order of the Eastern Star No. 390.
Robert and Lillian later toured the country in an RV and lived in San Diego, California, and Hillsboro, Oregon, before returning to Hanover in 2015.
Robert is survived by daughter Kathy Black of Albuquerque, New Mexico (husband Irving Robinson); grandson Robert Saunders (wife Tiffany (Quinn)) and great-grandson Landon Saunders of San Jose, California; and granddaughter Pamela Saunders (husband Javier Baylon) of Boston, Massachusetts. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Ethel Mary (Black) Heckman and Ruby (Black) Jones, and his beloved wife Lillian.

Reverend Katrina Pekich-Bundy will conduct funeral services at 1:00 PM Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Lytle Welty Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, 117 Holt Drive on Madison's hilltop with interment to follow in Sharon Hill Cemetery.
